A Visit to a Place of Historic Interest

  I love to travel.  My parents encouraged me to travel.  I have been cherishing the dream of visiting the Taj Mahal for a long time.  My dream came true during the last Puja vacation.  I went to Agra with my parents.  I also had some friends with me.  On 7th October, at about 5 pm we started for New Delhi by the Rajdhani Express from Howrah.  As the speed of the train increased, I feasted my eyes on the passing charming scenes through the window.  Green fields, village huts, hills and trees greeted our eyes.  The next morning we reached Agra.  The marvelous Taj looks like a beautiful dream on a moonlit night.  What a wonderful architecture!  I had only heard of its majestic beauty earlier.  But this time with my own eyes I got boundless joy and thrill.  My friends were also amazed to see this majestic edifice.  In addition to the Taj, we visited Akbar's tomb at Sekundra and the deserted fort at Fatehpur Sikri.  Moti Masjid(Mosque), Red Fort, Jumma Masjid(Mosque) and Qutub Minar have fascinated us a lot.  We were simply fascinated by visiting Dewan-i-am and Dewan-i-Khas.  Agra casts a hypnotic spell on us with its old appearance and historical ruins.    One day my parents took us to Sangsad Bhaban, Shantiban, Rajghat and Vijayghat.  Such a tour is in fact a kind of discovery as well as history itself.  As I returned, I remembered Keats' line: 'A thing of beauty is a joy forever'.

 Sir,


     I shall be highly obliged if you kindly publish the following matter in your daily newspaper in the interest of common people.


        Television is a wonderful invention  of science.  It has an educational value, no doubt.  The whole world is now in our drawing room through the television screen.  With the advancement of science we can see a lot of satellite channels on our television screens.  It is one of the most powerful media now.  But now a lot of serials and films on crimes  are being shown on TV screens on different channels. Sex and violence are the main attractions of these serials.  The news of crime is also given more importance than other news.  These are causing great harm to the young minds.  There is a general tendency among young people to imitate these in real life situations.  These serials and films create aggression among the younger generation.  These are very harmful for our society.  These scenes have contributed a lot to the present social crimes of different types. It should be remembered that television is the only mode of entertainment to many people.  Therefore, strict action should be taken against such serials and films immediately.  Such programs should be censored for the welfare of the society.


        Under the above circumstances, I pray and hope that the government should take proper steps to solve this problem as soon as possible.
