       In his autobiographical narrative "Strong Roots", APJ Abdul Kalam has given a description of his locality. He was born in Rameshwaram, an island town. He lived in their ancestral house on the Mosque Street. Rameswaram was very famous to the pilgrims for the Shiva temple which was about ten minutes walk from their house. The locality was predominantly Muslim community. But a lot of Hindu families also lived there. The Hindu and Muslim families lived together amicably in his locality. In the locality, there was a very old mosque where his father would take him for evening prayers.

বঙ্গানুবাদ: এপিজে আবদুল কালাম তাঁর আত্মজীবনীমূলক রচনা "স্ট্রং রুটস" এ তাঁর লোকালয়ের বর্ণনা দিয়েছেন।  তিনি দ্বীপ শহর রামেশ্বরমে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন।  তিনি মস্কো স্ট্রিটে তাঁদের পৈতৃক বাড়িতে থাকতেন।   শিব মন্দিরের জন্য  রামেশ্বরম তীর্থযাত্রীদের কাছে খুব বিখ্যাত ছিল  যেটি তাঁদের বাড়ি থেকে প্রায় দশ মিনিটের হাঁটা পথ ছিল।  এলাকাটি ছিল প্রধানত মুসলিম অধ্যুষিত।  তবে প্রচুর হিন্দু পরিবারও সেখানে বাস করত।  হিন্দু ও মুসলমান পরিবারগুলি তাঁর লোকালয়ে মাতামাতিপূর্ণভাবে বসবাস করত।  লোকালয়ে খুব পুরানো একটি মসজিদ ছিল যেখানে তাঁর বাবা তাকে সান্ধ্য প্রার্থনায় নিয়ে যেতেন।
