Ans: The absence of sense of beauty affects on the life of common people of India to a great extent. Due to lack of aesthetic sense man loses his physical and mental well-being. They litter rubbish in their houses and courtyards, keep themselves and their surroundings filthy. They spit betel-juice on their walls, streets and even railway coaches. In this way they harm their own health and that of others. They contaminate society with diseases and their despicable standards of behavior adversely affect their fellow citizen.                                                                                             

l) How does a poor Santhal express his sense of beauty and order in his daily life?

                                                        Karma

l)        .How did Sir Mohan Lal feel when he saw two Englishmen coming up to the coupe? Why was he half smiling and half protesting?

Answer:- Sir Mohan Lal felt comfortable when he saw the approaching British soldiers and his heart warmed up at the prospect of a good conversation with them. He thought of welcoming them by talking to the guard though they were entitled to travel only second class. He felt assured that his journey would not be a boring thing after all.

Sir Mohan was half smiling because he wanted to welcome the British soldiers in the coupe and play the gracious host. He wanted to show them his generosity and wanted them to be thankful. He was half protesting because the soldiers did not care for taking his permission and barged inside the first class compartment and spoke ill of Sir Mohan and wanted him out of the train.  

m)     Compare the personalities of Sir Mohan Lal and Lachmi.

Answer:-Sir Mohan Lal was an anglicized Indian who took pride in everything British and hated anything that was Indian. His treatment of Indians was so cruel that he was ashamed to travel even with his wife and did not like his in-laws. On the other hand Lachmi was an extremely ordinary and simple lady who did not even reciprocate the hatred of her husband. She thought of herself as a submissive, docile wife of an aggressive, flamboyant person. Lachmi could mix freely with the lower class people and was comfortable with everything common and Indian. Thus the personalities of Sir Mohan and Lachmi were poles apart.

n) Bring out the significance of the title  "KARMA"

n)       Describe Jimmy’s final meeting with Ben Price. Why did Ben refuse to recognize Jimmy?

Ans:-When Jimmy saved the life of the little girl by cracking open the safe in the bank of Mr Adams, he saw Ben Price standing at the gate. Jimmy knew that he had been exposed and it was clear to everybody that he was after all a burglar. Jimmy felt that the world had come to an end for him. He knew that Ben had come to arrest him and as he was totally frustrated at the turn of events, he smiled at Ben and offered to go with hum as it did not make any difference to him then. At this juncture Ben pretended not to know him at all and reminded him that his buggy was waiting for him.

Ben refused to recognize Jimmy as he was convinced that Jimmy was already a reformed man and did not deserve any more punishment. He did not wish to come between Jimmy and his happy life ahead

o)       What did Jimmy write in his letter to his old friend?

Ans:-In his letter to his old friend, Jimmy wrote that he wanted to meet him at Sullivan’s Place in Little Rock on Wednesday night at nine o’ clock. He wanted to present his old friend Billy his kit of tools which was impossible for anybody else to replicate. He wrote that he had quit his job as a burglar, was doing well in business and was going to marry the finest girl on earth and lead a straight life. He also informed his friend that after his marriage he would sell out and go to the west and settle there with his wife and not commit any crime in his life again. At the end of the letter he again requested Billy to be sure to come and take away his kit from him and end up a few things for him.

p)       Evaluate the character of Jimmy Valentine.

q)            Question: Bring out the beauties of the character of Miss Annabel Adams.

     Ans:  Annabel Adams is the minor character in O. Henry’s story ‘Alias Jimmy Valentine’. She is the daughter of the bank owner, Mr. Adams. She is a lovely young lady. She is simple and delicate. She puts complete trust in Jimmy who loves her madly and from deep within. When the daughter of Annabel’s sister gets trapped in the vault of the bank she requests Jimmy emphatically to do something to save her. Actually it is her deep love, faith and confidence in Jimmy that forces her to plead to him so earnestly.  So, the simplicity and power of love gets reflected beautifully in the character of Annabel Adams.

r)        Bring out beauties of the character of Ben Price.

           Ans: Ben Price was the detective who investigated the burglaries committed by Jimmy Valentine. When Jimmy Valentine gets ready for a new life at Elmore with his proposed marriage with Miss Annabel Adams, Ben Price comes to the spot and follows him. But when he finds Jimmy saving a five years old girl from a possible death, ignoring his state of insecurity, Ben Price decided to allow Jimmy settle down in his new would-be-conjugal life at Elmore. This shows that Ben Price was a good judge of human character. He had compassion for the reformed burglar. As a detective he is very successful life. He deserves our special respect as a good man.

Ans:-The witches deceived Macbeth in their second meeting through the apparitions. The second apparition told him that he would not be killed until the Birnam Woods come walking to Dunsinane and Macbeth was not to be killed by any man who was “woman born”. This was deception as the soldiers in Malcolm’s army cut down branches from the Birnam Wood and, holding them up, marched to Dunsinane to hide their actual numbers. It was also revealed that Macduff was not normally born. He was from his mother’s womb “untimely ripped”. Thus, the witches, through their equivocation, deceived Macbeth with statements that had double meaning.

Mobile phone is a telephone system that works without any wire. It is an important medium of communication. We can communicate with the people at home and abroad in the shortest possible time through it. Mobile phone is one of the wonderful wonders of science. It has added a new dimension to our communication system. It can be moved easily and quickly from place to place. Today we cannot do a single day without it. It has brought the world to our reach. At present, one can use internet in one’s mobile set and communicate with the whole world. Through mobile phone, we can send messages to distant places, play games and sports. The miscreants can easily commit crimes through mobile phone. Mobile phone is also injurious to our health. So, we should be conscious in using it. The necessity of a mobile phone in exchanging messages cannot be denied in the true sense of the term in our practical life.

                                                                              Face Book

Face book is an internet based social network connecting to people worldwide. Everybody having internet connection may have access to it. Face book nowadays contributes much to maintain social and friendly relationship between people living far and near. Any person wishes to be a face book member needs first to have an internet connection and then to sign up with personal details and secret passwords to ensure privacy and security. Any person can search their friends as well as near and dear ones online and can send invitation. If the invitation is once accepted they become friends in terms of face book and can share everything of each other stored in their face book. Face book allows us to make numerous albums and upload photos and documents and make friendship with a lot of people. Any face book member can write comments on their status, on other member's status and photos etc. Face book provides online chatting as well as. With the help of face book we can easily find out our long lost friends as well as near and dear ones who are already face book member. It can be used to raise awareness and share news among the members. However, face book has some disadvantages as well. Crooked people may upload obscene and objectionable photos and comments. Besides these negative aspects, face book has brought a great change in modern civilization.

                                                                    MY FRIEND

I have many friends. But my bosom friend is Anjan. He is a young boy of 17 with a thin and stout body. He is one of my classmates too. He has an impressive grace and scholarly look. He too likes reading books, watching cricket matches and angling like me. He also dislikes playing outdoor games as I do. These common interests endear him to me. Besides, my bosom friend possesses an awesome character. Anjan is very straightforward and outspoken. He hates lying, shows respect to his elders and very kind to youngsters. He is smart both physically and mentally. This is his special quality. He never feels nervous and always speaks in a decent manner. For all these qualities I look upon him as my best friend. Anjan frequently visits our family. He respects my parents and loves my younger sister and me dearly. I love him too. I never want to wound the feelings of my bosom friend. I wish I would remain faithful to him till the last day of my life.

                                                           MY FAVOURITE GAME

I like almost all the games – both indoor and outdoor. But my favourite game is cricket. It is now a very popular game in our country. It seems to me to be most exciting and thrilling of all outdoor games. It is played on an oval ground between teams. Eleven players play in each side. But there must be a twelfth man in each team in the reserve bench. One side bats while the other side bowls. The captain who wins the toss decides either to bat or bowl first. Two players bat and one bowls after another. The batsman hits the ball and takes run. The fielders save run. There are two umpires to regulate the game. A one day match is of limited fifty overs while a test match goes on for two or more days. Towards the end of the game, a one day match becomes more exciting. The batsmen hit sixes or fours more and more to reach the target. In the bid they often get out making the victory almost uncertain. Cricket is a game of team spirit, discipline and co-operation. It is a game of physical exercise.

was born at Jorasanko in Calcutta on the 7th May, 1861. Maharshi Debendranath and Sarada Devi were his parents.  He had no regular school education. He was a vers     Rabindranath Tagore is my favourite author. He atile genius. He was a poet, a dramatist, a story-writer, a novelist, a philosopher an essayist. Some of his best poems are found in the 'Gitanjali', 'Sonartari', 'Kheya', 'Kalpana', 'Balaka', etc. For his 'Gitanjali' he got the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913. His songs are very popular in our country. He was a great educationist too.  He had his own ideas as to how to educate the children for their all-round development. He established a school at Santiniketan and afterwards founded the University of Viswa Bharati. He had endless love for his country and countrymen. Tagore rejected 'Knighthood' to protest against the Jalianwallabag massacre in 1919.                                                                                                                                                 

    Rabindranath is no more with us. But his ideas and ideals will continue to inspire and encourage the whole humanity in the days.
