Questions and Answers of the poem “O Captain! My Captain”.

O Captain! My Captain -- Walt Whitman
1.     Give the substance of the poem “O Captain! My Captain”
Ans: The poem, “O Captain! My Captain” is in memory of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of America. It expresses the poet’s deep sense of sorrow at the unexpected death of the great leader of the U.S.A. As a bold leader he brought his ship safely through the stormy voyage to the harbour. Thousands of people are waiting on the shore with ribboned wreaths to welcome their leader. But the captain is lying dead and cold on the deck of the ship in a pool of blood. The poet cannot believe that his captain is no more. Others may rejoice at the victory, but the poet will mourn for the dead leader.
2.      The ship is anchored safe and sound “–What is meant by ship? How is the ship anchored ‘safe and sound’?
Ans: The ship here means the United States of America.
!
Like a true captain Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of America has defeated the confederates of the Southern states of America. He thereby has preserved the national integrity of the U.S.A. making it secure from external and internal dangers.

3.      ‘O Captain! My Captain our fearful trip is done’ –Who is addressed as captain? Why is he addressed as captain? Bring out the meaning of ‘fearful trip’?
Ans: Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the U.S.A. is addressed as captain.

He is so called because Abraham Lincoln guided the U.S.A. through Civil War to safety as a captain guides his ship through a stormy voyage to the harbour.

In ordinary sense ‘fearful trip‘means a dreadful journey or excursion. But in this poem it refers to the voyage of the U.S.A. through the turmoil of civil war.

4.      “Here Captain dear father!
This arm beneath your head”- Who is the captain? Why does the poet call him dear father? Why does the poet place his arm beneath the captain’s head?

Ans: The captain is Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the U.S.A.

The poet loved his captain so dearly that he called him captain. Besides as a president of the country, Lincoln was the father of nation. He could protect the integrity of the country.
The poet finds that his dear captain is lying dead. He does not like to believe that the captain is no more. He thinks that the captain is resting only. He hopes that his captain will rise once again. So he places his arm under his head to help him rise easily.

I'm not sure if this is a format issue or something
to do with internet browser compatibility but I
thought I'd post to let you know. The design and style look great though!

Hope you get the problem fixed soon. Cheers

At this time it looks like Expression Engine is the preferred blogging platform out
there right now. (from what I've read) Is that what you are using
on your blog?

Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of
this site. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's difficult
to get that "perfect balance" between usability and
visual appearance. I must say that you've done a awesome job with this.

Additionally, the blog loads very quick for
me on Chrome. Exceptional Blog!

I'm amazed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that's
equally educative and amusing, and let me tell you, you've hit the nail on the head.
The problem is something which not enough men and women are speaking intelligently about.
Now i'm very happy that I found this in my hunt for something
regarding this.
