How did the enemy of the King became friends with the king in Leo Tolstoy's "Three Questions"?

The bearded man who was the king's enemy came to kill him. But when he came out of his ambush, the Tsar's bodyguard recognized him and wounded him seriously. The man somehow escaped from the bodyguard and reached to the Tsar. The Tsar and the hermit unfastened the man's clothing. Then the Tsar washed the wound and bandaged it with his handkerchief and the towel of the hermit. But blood did not stop flowing. The Tsar on washing and rebandaging the wound. At last the man got back his consciousness. The Tsar gave him fresh water to drink. Then he took him inside the hut and laid him on the bed. Thus the Tsar saved the man's life. But the man was ashamed because he had recognized his saviour. Then he confessed his guilt. The Tsar instantly forgave him and won the friendship of his enemy so easily.
