Ans:

The soldier mentioned in the poem is one who has probably taken part in a war and now lies dead in the open valley.

 * The soldier is lying open-mouthed in the sun-soaked bed of nature in the beautiful green valley which is flooded with sunligh from the top of the mountain.   His head is on the pillow made of fern.  He lies stretching his body in the heavy undergrowth of the valley. His feet are among the flowers.  He looks pale.  He has a gentle smile on his face.  His smile is innocent like  an infant.  The humming insects do not disturb his sleep at all.  He sleeps peacefully keeping his  one hand on his breast.  But suddenly it is discovered that there are two red holes on his side.  This proves that the soldier is already dead.
